Network Community Detection on Metric Space

Community detection in a complex network is an important problem of much interest in recent years. In general, a community detection algorithm chooses an objective function and captures the communities of the network by optimizing the objective function, and then, one uses various heuristics to solve the optimization problem to extract the interesting communities for the user. In this article, we demonstrate the procedure to transform a graph into points of a metric space and develop the methods of community detection with the help of a metric defined for a pair of points. We have also studied and analyzed the community structure of the network therein. The results obtained with our approach are very competitive with most of the well-known algorithms in the literature, and this is justified over the large collection of datasets. On the other hand, it can be observed that time taken by our algorithm is quite less compared to other methods and justifies the theoretical findings

Immediate release drug delivery systems: a current update

Instead of tremendous advancements in drug delivery, the oral route remains the most preferred route for the administration of therapeutic agents because of the low cost of therapy and ease of administration that leads to high levels of patient concordance. Incorporating an existing medicine into Newer Drug Delivery System (NDDS) are gaining popularities. One such approach is to formulate Immediate Release Tablet, which dissolve or disintegrate rapidly in saliva without the need of water within few seconds due to action of superdisintegrant in the formulation or other novel manufacturing technique. The demand for orally disintegrating tablets has enormously increased during the last decade over the other oral dosage forms (such as tablets, capsules, dry syrups, chewing gums, chewable tablets etc.) particularly for geriatrics and pediatrics, travelers, dysphasics, psychotics and non-cooperative patients. Considering the advantages of Immediate Release Tablet and its growing demand, an attempt has been made through this article to give an overview of preparation and new methodologies for the Immediate Release Tablet followed currently and in past including some patient information

Spatio-temporal human action detection and instance segmentation in videos

With an exponential growth in the number of video capturing devices and digital video content, automatic video understanding is now at the forefront of computer vision research. This thesis presents a series of models for automatic human action detection in videos and also addresses the space-time action instance segmentation problem. Both action detection and instance segmentation play vital roles in video understanding. Firstly, we propose a novel human action detection approach based on a frame-level deep feature representation combined with a two-pass dynamic programming approach. The method obtains a frame-level action representation by leveraging recent advances in deep learning based action recognition and object detection methods. To combine the the complementary appearance and motion cues, we introduce a new fusion technique which signicantly improves the detection performance. Further, we cast the temporal action detection as two energy optimisation problems which are solved using Viterbi algorithm. Exploiting a video-level representation further allows the network to learn the inter-frame temporal correspondence between action regions and it is bound to be a more optimal solution to the action detection problem than a frame-level representation. Secondly, we propose a novel deep network architecture which learns a video-level action representation by classifying and regressing 3D region proposals spanning two successive video frames. The proposed model is end-to-end trainable and can be jointly optimised for both proposal generation and action detection objectives in a single training step. We name our new network as \AMTnet" (Action Micro-Tube regression Network). We further extend the AMTnet model by incorporating optical ow features to encode motion patterns of actions. Finally, we address the problem of action instance segmentation in which multiple concurrent actions of the same class may be segmented out of an image sequence. By taking advantage of recent work on action foreground-background segmentation, we are able to associate each action tube with class-specic segmentations. We demonstrate the performance of our proposed models on challenging action detection benchmarks achieving new state-of-the-art results across the board and signicantly increasing detection speed at test time

A Conformal Mapping Based Fractional Order Approach for Sub-optimal Tuning of PID Controllers with Guaranteed Dominant Pole Placement

    Get PDF
A novel conformal mapping based Fractional Order (FO) methodology is developed in this paper for tuning existing classical (Integer Order) Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controllers especially for sluggish and oscillatory second order systems. The conventional pole placement tuning via Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) method is extended for open loop oscillatory systems as well. The locations of the open loop zeros of a fractional order PID (FOPID or PI{\lambda}D{\mu}) controller have been approximated in this paper vis-\`a-vis a LQR tuned conventional integer order PID controller, to achieve equivalent integer order PID control system. This approach eases the implementation of analog/digital realization of a FOPID controller with its integer order counterpart along with the advantages of fractional order controller preserved. It is shown here in the paper that decrease in the integro-differential operators of the FOPID/PI{\lambda}D{\mu} controller pushes the open loop zeros of the equivalent PID controller towards greater damping regions which gives a trajectory of the controller zeros and dominant closed loop poles. This trajectory is termed as "M-curve". This phenomena is used to design a two-stage tuning algorithm which reduces the existing PID controller's effort in a significant manner compared to that with a single stage LQR based pole placement method at a desired closed loop damping and frequency.Comment: 23 pages, 7 figures, in press; Communications in Nonlinear Science and Numerical Simulations, 201

Optimized Quality Factor of Fractional Order Analog Filters with Band-Pass and Band-Stop Characteristics

Fractional order (FO) filters have been investigated in this paper, with band-pass (BP) and band-stop (BS) characteristics, which can not be achieved with conventional integer order filters with orders lesser then two. The quality factors for symmetric and asymmetric magnitude response have been optimized using real coded Genetic Algorithm (GA) for a user specified center frequency. Parametric influence of the FO filters on the magnitude response is also illustrated with credible numerical simulations.Comment: 6 pages, 13 figures; 2012 Third International Conference on Computing, Communication and Networking Technologies (ICCCNT'12), July 2012, Coimbator
